The importance of proper belt drive pressure washer pulley sizing.

A belt drive is an excellent drive system for pressure washers that get heavy to constant use.
The principle of this drive system is to "gear down" the pump rpm, resulting in less wear and tear on the moving parts of a high pressure pump
For example, a gas powered small engine will typically run at 3400 rpm when under load. In direct drive systems the pump will also run at 3400 rpm.

In belt drive pressure washer systems the belt pulleys are sized differently effectively gearing down the system to run the pump at a significantly lesser speed than the engine.

There are many pumps that are built specifically for drive systems such as belt drive or gear drive the most common of these pumps will operate at 1450 rpm. This is less than half the speed of the engine.

Just think about it
It only stands to reason that a belt driven pump working at less than half the rpm of a direct drive system will certainly have a significantly longer lifespan.

This is the reason professional mobile washers heavily favor a belt drive drive pressure washer, after all, breakdowns can cost them far more than the cost of repair.

There are three major things to consider in belt driven system setups, those being, accurate alignment of the drive belts, proper tensioning of belts and accurate sizing of the pulleys to achieve the differential necessary to properly drive the pressure pump at it's designed rpm.
